It looks like someone was once assigned to help with your language, but I do not know how far he got.

Hi brothers, in the Xhosa language it seems impractical to translate the whole application - some words either don't have a simple translation, or even if we'd find one it'd be difficult for application users to understand the traslated words/phrases. We usually set our computers & phones to English anyways, so we're quite familiar with English applications.

The idea when desiring a translation (usually) is to use a Xhosa mwb as input and output a resulting pdf in Xhosa (OP can correct me if I'm wrong).
So I think a workable solution for the language is to keep the application interface language (English) but just add a language in the DB to enable parsing a Xhosa .epub file. And then create the output program in Xhosa - for the publishers.

In the translation tool, I couldn't find a clear way to do this. So I wonder if it's supported at all. I've been able to add Xhosa in the languages table (plus another table that defines patterns) and I added a Xhosa template - for displaying on the notice board. I did both of these with instructions I found on this site for other unsupported languages.

I only need to update it when the mwb changes, but that's usually trivial. I think it'd be great if we could submit the needed Xhosa language definitions [a script maybe?] and have this limited but sufficient translation. Is this possible at all?

Well, yes and no. Honestly I think just making sure the output is in Xhosa may be enough, but the inital question was about translating the app. Which is another valid question.

Templates have placeholders that retrieve the actual local expression from the translated database. But with no translations present, templates need to be adapted (and can easily be adapted) by replacing every placeholder by the exact expression you want. That would take about 5 minutes per template and you are done until the expressions are changed (like 'review and preview of next week and announcements' was replaced by 'concluding comments'). It would be wise to keep the original template and somehow designate the modified one with the language.

As for importing the workbook: unzip the attachment. It gives a small txt file. In Settings navigate to the >_ sign in the bottom right hand corner. Navigate to the txt file and run. It gives a message that everything is OK if you saw no errors. It should now be possible to import Xhosa workbooks. But NOTE: this works for epub only. I saw the latest issue has not been converted to epub yet.

 Edit: I've had to make changes to the script in the past to include (1) Date (copied from 'en' since the structure's similar) and (2) handle singularity in timing (equivalent of Minute vs Minutes). (3) Also added the template in case anyone else wants it.
