This is part bug, part feature request.

I would like the dropdown list for parts a little more intelligent.

- If a student has a part he can't also be the assistant for that part. So he/she shouldn't show up in the list for possible partners as it is now

- If a brother is chairman he won't be able to do parts in the student section of the meeting (bible reading and "apply yourself") or be an assistant in these parts. So he shouldn't show up in the list.

- When I assign parts I would like to know when the students had their last assignment. Being just an assistant doesn't really count but it's not possible to see just the "real work" assignments. The column with "just this assignment" doesn't really help because the student might have had a Bible study last time but I am considering him/her now for a initial call (for example). I would like another column that lists just assignments from the "school"-part of the meeting without the "assistant"-assignments.

- Also please make the abrreviations clearer, the ones used are mostly cryptic. Maybe you can use colors and symbols from the L&M workbook.

- lesson #17 should allow a student only to be assigned to rooms with a microphone (in almost every congregation that is just the main hall).

I think a lot of posters agree that the assigning procedure could do with an overhaul. You will find many posts about this subject. As far as I understand it is being worked on.

I do not agree with particularly one suggestion though, and I would like to mention it: you would prefer to exclude chairmen from having other parts that meeting. It is contrary to instructions. They specify that a chairman may or may not have other meeting parts.

So if you have an understanding in the local congregation that the chairman is (preferably) not being assigned other parts, just do not assign other parts. That wouldn't be the hard part, I think.

Additionally: if the software would be hardcoded to preclude chairmen from being assigned elsewhere during the same evening, many smaller congregations would end up having a problem here. (We are a small congregation but we happen to have many brothers with teaching ability... So we are in a luxury position, and we manage to not assign a brother twice on one evening. But when hard times come, or holidays (!), I am not so sure if we can keep it up)

As far as the codes are concerned, they may look a bit cryptic, but they cannot be too big, otherwise they are not codes anymore. For a list of codes see this posthttp://www.theocbase.net/support-forum/282-abbreviations.html#reply-298Codes appear in the timeline as well.

A problem has been encoutered in the codes in one of the more recent versions, and that has not been solved yet, which is that all assignments are listed as students, even when the assignment was 'just' assistant. The fact that this wasn't solved in the latest version, has also been mentioned already.

Hey Marc,

maybe I didn't make myself clear, but my suggestion was to exclude the chairman just from the "School"-part (Bible Reading and the section "Apply yourself"). As he is supposed to give counsel on these assignments he can't have student parts the night he is chairman. Of course he can do other parts of the meeting like in "treasures" or the "life as Christians".

Edit: I've changed the original post to make this clearer.

Even then he could be an assitant to a talk, in a small congregation, I suppose.

Hmmm, I'm not really comfortable with this. How is he supposed to give good counsel if he was actively participating in the part? If he appears in the pick-list he should be at the very least be marked as chairman so you don't pick him accidentally.

Hi Manuel,

you find a suggestion about how to redesign the list in this discussion (last comment):

http://www.theocbase.net/discussions/810-previous-talks-showing-as-c1s.html

As it concernes the Counselor I can understand your thinking, but maybe it's enough to warn scheduler and then let him decide. For example may be, there are few brothers and the chairman has do read the Bible himself.
